“After all the things you’ve done for me... Am I allowed to consider you my friend?”
For a moment, Takumi was shocked. How could she possibly have... Then realization dawned on him, and he laughed softly.
"Well... that depends..." Wouldn't it be amusing... "Would you treat me as a friend?" ... if this girl, who he hardly knew... "Would you be able to not run away?" ... who he attacked in the mists... "Would you be able to trust me?" ... and whose very name was a danger... "To have faith in me?" ... really became... "And most importantly..." ... his first real friend in years? "Would you... like us to be friends?"
Takumi's oceanlike eyes gazed sincerely into the young woman's as he bit his lip gently, awaiting her response. Then, coming to a new realization, he looked away and rubbed the back of his neck, smiling softly. He wanted her to say yes. She probably wouldn't, but...
... he really did want to be her friend.

The young female’s ocean-green eyes quickly moved away as a wave of questions came. She could have seen that coming. Carefully, she answered each once of them without a single sound in her head. Most of them she could promise. A few she had already succeeded in. But there were also things that came along with her friendship, that he definitely would not long for. At this moment, he was not fully involved with her trouble yet. But that would surely come if he would accept this offer.
“Yes... I would treat you as a friend...” She said softly. “Yes... I will be able to trust you, and I will have faith in you. But, no... I won’t be able not to run...”
The last one he had to understand from her point of view. All her life, she had been doing nothing but running away in attempts to avoid problems. She had fled for too many things. But, that one fact did not mean that she would leave him behind without a word; betraying him. That wasn’t something that belonged in friendship.
“And I think the both of us could use a friend...”

The young woman averted her gaze, and took a moment before answering.
“Yes... I would treat you as a friend... Yes... I will be able to trust you, and I will have faith in you. But, no... I won’t be able not to run...”
Hah... So, that was it, then. Well, it wasn't as though he'd really been expecting her to, but...
“And I think the both of us could use a friend...”
Takumi blinked and looked up at her, not quite sure he'd really heard what he did. After a moment, though, he burst out laughing.
"Yes... I think you're right! Both of us..." Takumi nodded. "And I can understand why you might have to run... I suppose I can still live with that. So that leaves just one more question... Do you accept me as your friend?"

Another silence followed, and the girl didn’t look back the young man this time. Her eyes moved to stare at the food again, unable to allow herself just one small peek. She didn’t want to read his expression, afraid of the rejection she was expecting. She couldn’t promise him that one thing – not to run away. He had to understand at least that much. She moved from place to place in order to keep other from getting harmed for her situation, so she would have to run, and probably lots sooner than planned. But then, as a lump was forming in the back of her throat and she was beginning to think that it had been a mistake, Takumi laughed.
She quickly looked at him with wide, blinking eyes. She quirked an eyebrow, confused. There was no way she could imagine that those promises, questions and her statement in particular, could be funny in any possible way. Why was he laughing?
‘Yes... I think you’re right!’ He said. ‘Both of us... And I can understand why you might have to run... I suppose I can still live with that. So that leaves just one more question... Do you accept me as your friend?’
Hishime stared at the male for a long time, speechless. And then, the realization kicked in. She sighed in relief. Thank God, he didn’t mind that. He didn’t get it the wrong way, or thought of her as someone to betray him nor anyone else, as she had expected. Her pinkish lips formed a small smile, corners curling just slightly, enough to make it count as a smile.
“I think I should be asking you that question...” She said quietly. “And... if I didn’t accept you I wouldn’t be treating you like this, right?”

After staring speechless at him for a while, the young woman let out a sigh of relief and gave the slightest of smiles.
“I think I should be asking you that question... And... if I didn’t accept you I wouldn’t be treating you like this, right?”
"Well then..." Takumi brushed his hand through his dark blue hair and smiled. A soft, warm glow seemed to emanate from him. "Consider us friends! I wonder what lies ahead for us...?"
Not quite satisfied with the power of what he'd said, Takumi closed his eyes and reached inside himself to give a spark of inspiration life through his words:
"A new dawn's sunlight filters through the deep blue sea from the ocean green, reflecting back from the calm, clear depths to shine upon the waves..."

The young female found herself calming at the sight of his lips forming in the sweetest smile. She managed to smile in response, a true smile. The corner of her mouth curled slightly, her lips parted and flashing her teeth. There was a sparkle in her eye, resembling the happiness that somehow rushed through her at this moment. He did want to be her friend, to trust her and to listen to her. That was one of the greatest feelings ever.
But, however, there was one small thing in all of his words that caught her eyes. ‘What lies ahead of us’. She didn’t know what exactly he would be meaning with that. It seemed suspicious in some way. But she decided not to mention it this time. It could wait. After a moment of just staring at the young man in disbelieve, she quickly moved her eyes away to stare back down at the tray.
“Thank you, Takumi... for everything...” She whispered quietly, the smile decreasing in size but still remaining on her pinkish lips.

((OOC: Sorry I disappeared on you again... v.v'')
To Takumi's surprise and delight, the young woman smiled for a moment - a real smile, with teeth and everything! She seemed to be truly happy... but there still seemed to be something bothering her.
“Thank you, Takumi... for everything...”
Sighing softly as the smile faded a little from her lips, Takumi sat fairly pleased but a little puzzled about what was going through her head to dampen even a moment such as this... Maybe what he said was just a little too weird. He certainly never heard anyone in the village - or anywhere else, for that matter - talking like that...
There was also another matter pressing its way forward from the back of his mind... The matter of the girl's name. There just never seemed to be a good time to ask... and now that she was his friend, it just didn't seem right to pry. Yet, he had every right to this, this one little word...
"If there's anything you ever want to tell me, please feel free - and know this: I'm very good at keeping secrets."
... Sometimes Takumi felt too kindhearted for his own good. But at least he had a friend now.

The young male seemed utterly confused by her last reaction, maybe puzzled by the fact that her smile hadn’t been of her pale face for a very long time, or for reasons beyond her. Carefully, she glanced back up at him when he spoke. His voice was kind, soft, a tone she had heard before but she didn’t seem to be able to recognize. She shook her head lightly to herself. Clearly, he still wanted to know that one thing, badly and desperately.
“M-my... my name...” she mumbled quietly, looking back down to focus her gaze on the warm meal on her lap. Well, it wasn’t that warm anymore, actually, just a little trace of heat left. “I guess it’s only fair...” She sighed.
The girl swallowed, thinking it over once again to make sure it would cause no harm. He had won their fight, not in the fair way he thought he had, but he had defeated her. And the price she should be paying for losing, and the trophy he would receive when that was all over, was indeed her name. Would it be very disrespectful and dishonorable to refuse now? Yes. Yes, it would. But, she had never made it a promise, had she? That was one thing to consider...
No. That didn’t seem like the right thing to do. Takumi, he looked so friendly now, and his words had been completely filled with kindness right from the bottom of his heart. How could someone, so forgiving and kindhearted, be any threat?
“My name is Kuresaki Hishime...” She spoke the words slowly, tone a near whisper. When the name finally left her lips, she couldn’t help but shiver. Oh, how she hated this.
“Lets see...” she pondered aloud. “Is there... anything you’d like to know?”

Kuresaki Hishime...
So this was the name she had tried so hard to keep hidden... and yet in the end, she gave it of her own free will. Perhaps not because she wanted to, but... she could easily have avoided telling him once again.
But she did tell him. Takumi smiled, honored that she would do such a thing. Still, it was obviously very painful for her...
"Let's see..." Hishime added. "Is there anything you'd like to know?"
Takumi blinked. There was a lot that he wanted to know, really... but he really didn't know where to begin.
"Well... actually... I would like to know more about you. You have to admit, there's a lot I don't know."
Let's just see what she'll give freely for now.

A reply was quick to come, and the words were something to be expected. Of course he wouldn’t just go ahead and ask. Well, that wasn’t totally true. He would, if most questions didn’t have anything to do with her personal conflicts. And he didn’t even have to say something for her to know that there a lot of secrets about that one thing he was longing for to know. But she’d just given him her name. Wasn’t that enough already? Maybe. But he had the right to know things, though not everything, he was a friend.
Slowly, Hishime shook her head lightly to herself, twirling the chopsticks in her delicate fingers while he thoughts continued to run. A soft smile found it’s way upon her lips, small and innocent. He wanted to know more about her, but it seemed almost like he thought it wasn’t right to ask particular things. Either that, or he was once again testing her...
No.
Shit. She had to stop thinking about him in that way. But it was almost instinct. It was hard to just trust someone when never had been able to without regret. But he wouldn’t betray her, right? No, he wouldn’t. At least, she hoped so.
“Well... you’re not making it easier for me that way, huh?” she mumbled quietly, watching him with soft ocean-green eyes. What was there to tell him apart from the cliché, boring stories? “I’m... sixteen... soon to be seventeen. I... used to sing and draw when I was younger...” she said quietly. Ok. That was it. Fuck it all. There was not much else she could just think of. “I don’t know, just ask whatever you’d like to know, alright?”

(OOC: Sorry if I'm a bit rusty... and if my own social ineptitude shows through. ) “Well... you’re not making it easier for me that way, huh? I’m... sixteen... soon to be seventeen. I... used to sing and draw when I was younger... I don’t know, just ask whatever you’d like to know, alright?” Almost seventeen... strange, she looked a bit older than that. More... developed, anyway. Takumi shook his head - why was he thinking like that again? .... Probably because of the awkward events that had happened. And because he wasn't used to being so close to a girl... Well, anyone really, but especially a girl. "Well, I don't know..." What was he supposed to ask? The last thing he wanted was to say something wrong and have her close herself to him again. Every time a question formed in his head, a reason not to ask soon followed. Besides, he didn't really want to pry secrets from her... "How do you feel... about life?" Maybe it was a weird thing to ask, but Takumi enjoyed questions like that.

(OOC: Don't worry too much about it. It's kind of hard for me as well to get back into character. Haven't RPed with her for a very long time.)
His expression seemed basically the same as her own, not that much frustrated but deep in thought. Again, he gave the same kind of reply. He didn’t know what to ask her, or so he claimed. Was he afraid to ask things, for some reasons beyond her comprehension? Who knew? There was only one way to find out, but there was no way she would go with that. This wasn’t something she could just go along with and ask. The young girl shifted slightly in the sheets, pulling her legs more up towards her and bringing the tray along at the same time, closer to her. Absentmindedly, she found herself toying with the small pieces of food upon the medium-sized plate, picking it up with her chopsticks and dropping it again not a millimeter away from the spot it had once been laying. This continued for a long time while her thoughts and questions ruled her mind.
With her ocean-green eyes still directed at the food, she felt on corner of her mouth perk up in a half-smile when finally he spoke again. An actual question this time. Though, she had to say, it was a question that was more unexpected than anything else. How did she feel about life? Hishime blinked, slowly raising her head to eye the young man with a confused look on her pale face. Was there something behind that question she couldn’t see? It wasn’t just something ordinary one would ask one another. However, she decided she might as well show the still small amount of trust she had for him and answer honestly, no matter if there was any important information he could get from it. Was there anything she should necessarily hide from him now that he was officially her friend?
“Life can be... extremely hard...” The words came out in a rather quiet whisper, the tone in her voice nearly making it sound like she was unsure of her own answer. But that wasn’t exactly the case. For the most part. In a slow fashion, she turned her head away from him again, the tiny smile beginning to fade from her full, pinkish lips.
“But... no matter how many obstacles you have to face to reach any goal, you have to keep going... I don’t know what the hell we’re doing here... But we are here anyway, and there isn’t much we can do to change it...” She shrugged slightly. “I’m not going to let this thing called life beat me... Just keep going and keep fighting... no matter what...”

((OOC: If the question Takumi is asking has already been answered, let me know. It's been a long time.)) “Life can be... extremely hard... But... no matter how many obstacles you have to face to reach any goal, you have to keep going... I don’t know what the hell we’re doing here... But we are here anyway, and there isn’t much we can do to change it... I’m not going to let this thing called life beat me... Just keep going and keep fighting... no matter what...” "I see..." Takumi nodded slowly, considering this viewpoint. "And, if you don't mind my asking... What exactly is your goal? Maybe I can help?"

(OOC: Sure thing. Damn, I'm so out of character. -.-')
A small, yet at the same time heavy sigh left the young girl’s full lips. “My goal...?” she repeated the question silently, and then shook her head. She did have a goal. She had one goal. But there was no way in hell she was ever going to tell him that. Ever. Sure, she kind of felt guilty, but everybody had their reasons, hadn’t they?
Carefully, the Kunoichi moved, sitting up more straight and then bending over to set the tray on the edge of the bed, and at the same time slowly moving her legs towards her body. It was painful, yes, but she could live through it. Besides, she’d have to keep moving nonetheless. Gently, she wrapped her arms around her knees, kind of curling up in a ball. “Well, first... I’d like to live past my twenty’s.” The corners of her mouth perked up to form the smallest grin.
Hishime shrugged. “I don’t know. Of course I have dreams, but... I don’t know. I want to make the best of my life, while I still can.”

...... So she didn't want to say. Takumi sighed and nodded. He could tell from her body language that she was hiding the true answer, and the one she gave wasn't really an answer at all... but that was okay. She didn't have to tell him. Some things... would always be hidden.
"Well... I'll try to help anyway." Takumi stretched and smiled a bit. "At least I can do my best to help you live past your twenties. That's a start, right?"
