It had been a long time since Gaara had been able to catch a few minutes peace without his guards trailing his every move.
Sitting on the dusty ground, he sighed. One downside to being Kazekage was that he had very few places where he could go relax. There was always the crowds gathering around him and worse, the *shudder* fangirls.
It had been a long time since he sparred and Kankuro was never around these days. He was probably getting rusty. God forbid anyone should invade the village now because, yeah sure he could do some stuff but he was getting out of practise!
If only there was someone who wasn't too afraid to stand up to him.

Kagemi's hands were full of candy when she walked across the battling court on her monthly shopping (for candy) trip to Suna. She stopped and saw a red haired kid, maybe a little older than her, sitting on the ground. She saw the mark on his forehead and saw that it was the one and only Kazekage! Man, how cool would it be to be able to fight him!
"Hi!" She called over cheerfully. "My name's Kagemi! Wanna fight?"

Gaara looked over at the young girl. Great. Finally someone who wasn't afraid to spar and they seemed weak. He knew he shouldn't underestimate anyone but....yeah....she really did look weak.
Without so much as moving, he controlled some of the sand on the ground and grabbed her ankles, toppling her over.
"Think you could handle it?" He asked unemotionally. Back in the day, he would have killed her there and then....damn conscience

"Ow!" Kagemi cried as she fell over. "Geez! Don't underestimate me! I can blast through this place quicker than you can say, 'How?'" With that, Kagemi stood up.
One set of hand signs later, and Kagemi grinned. "Water plus sand equals mud!" She said and she put her hand on the ground. But surprisingly, no water came up.
"Crap! I forgot this is the desert!" She said sheepishly as she looked at her failed technique. "Oh well." And on came another set of hand signs. This time it worked.
"Fire-Lightning combo! Cosmic Destruction jutsu!" She yelled. And only a few moments later, the nice big ball of fire and lightning was building up in front of her. When it got to the right size (about as big as a school bus) she let it go, and it blasted in all directions, washing over everything (and everyone, including Kagemi) in sight. The whole explosion lasted about five minutes tops, and when it was over, Kagemi fell to her knees, panting.
She grinned. "Yeah, I can handle it."

Gaara continued to stare unemotionally at her, even as her jutsu hurled towards him. He hadn't met anyone as overconfident since Ikara. The fireball with added lighting came speeding towards him. Gaara just sighed; surely she had to know that this simply wouldn't work.
As fast as the lightning in her attack, the sand on the ground rose up and created a shield that entombed Gaara completely. Using his third eye, he was able to keep an eye on the outside situation from above. It seemed her attack would take on everything in its path, including the user herself.
He waited a few minutes and as the storm settled down, released the sand. He folded his arms and towered over the panting girl. "Really?" He looked down on her; he could feel that familiar bloodlust returning - he must do everything in his power to stop it!

"Crap! How did you do that?" Kagemi yelled. Then she got an idea. She bit her thumb till it bled.
"Kuchiyose!" And with a poof of mist, her trusty octopus appeared before her.
As if telepathically it knew what to do, it made clones of itself and used its tentacles like a helicopter propeller, allowing it to hover over Gaara.
Faster than anything the octopus had done before, it shot a wave of water over nearly everything it could reach, making the sand on the ground become mud. The octopus clones spread out farther and did the same, and before they knew it the whole ground was a big pile of wet, squishy muck.

"Crap! How did you do that?"
Gaara sighed; clearly she wasn't particularly educated in the 3 siblings of the sand.
He watched the octupus reduce any sand on the ground into a slippery sludge. A smirk spread across Gaara's face as the sun rose to the highest point in the sky and the town hall bells chimed, marking midday.
"You're water is no use...." He looked up at her octopus. "Know you're terrain before using an attack; Suna is a desert. Deserts get to their hottest temperatures between 12pm and 4pm" Gaara waited for the bells to stop chiming. "The temperature here should be around....i'd say 100 degrees....." He smirked; the water that was being shot out quickly turned to steam as the sun boiled it. The sludge on the ground dried out and began to crack.
Gaara walked towards his opponent and reached out to her; he figured since she hadn't gotten up since her last attack, she must be unable to. "You have a lot to learn kid!"

Kagemi smirked to herself. What he didn' know wouldn't hurt him....or would it?
The clones of the octopus that was standing (can octopuses stand?) behind Gaara jumped and hovered over the ground once again, this time, instead of water, spurting out ink. Thick, black octopus ink. Only slightly different.
Within milliseconds on touching the dry ground the ink began to set like cement. Within a few seconds of that it became hard like steel, but remained moist and slippery on top. So slippery, that Gaara himself slipped and landed on his back. 'Perfect,' Kagemi thought.
The octopus, which was still shooting out ink, directed its line of fire on Gaara's hands and feet, practically gluing him to the slippery, now black ground.

Safe from harm, Gaara laughed to himself as the sand clone on the ground below absorbed this new attack. He was glad to be rid of the instability of ichibi but glad he had retained many of his abilities.
He raised a hand; his chakra compressed sand that was strapped to his back disbanded from it's gourd composition. It gathered at Kagemi's feet.
Raising his hand, Gaara controlled the sand; it imitated him and rose up, completely surrounding her - it's radius around a metre from her body.
"Desert Coffin" He smirked, clenching his fist. The Sand compressed into her body, creating a prison from which there was no escape. As the sand hardened, some of the ragged edges sharpened into glass, cutting into her arms and legs.
"There's a reason im the kazekage of the sand...." He dropped from his sand platform in front of her. He leaned into her, his nose almost touching hers.
As if returning to his senses, he stepped back. No....he wasn't like that anymore. He didn't kill for pleasure.

"If you use that sandy coffiny thing on me, I swear I'll come back to haunt you." Kagemi said. "Those who kill people who only wanted a little spar dont deserve to be a Kage!"
Kagemi kicked with her scratched up legs, but it wasnt any use. There was only one thing to do.
"You know, what you said before just gave me an idea. At the rate of the previous water attack steaming away was probably around, oh, 12 mL per second per square inch? Just a wild guess." She said, and using a great effort she managed to get her hands together under the prison of sand.
"If you add more water than the sun can dry within a certain period of time, the ground stays wet for a bit. And where there is sand and lots of water, theres mud." And the octopus knew what she was talking about.
It jumped onto her exposed head. With another effort, she managed to manuever her fingers to form a seal. And that was enough for that. With the octopus's water-based energy combined with hers, this was a shoein.
"Inland Wave Blast!" She cried, and like the cosmic explosion technique, a ball of energy built up before her. But this one was made of water. LOTS of water. And the octopus was doing his part to add even more.
This time the energy ball was bigger, a lot bigger. Nearly the size of a house, maybe a little bigger, she thought. When its size was to her liking, she compressed it as much as she could, then let it go. The effect was about the same as the first blast Kagemi had produced, only with water. Of course, Gaara's sand shield protected him from anything, but the effect was enough to wash water all over Kagemi, and her prison of sand. It washed away as mud and Kagemi fell to the ground, free.

Gaara just laughed.
"Kid....dont think you know me....dont try to work out was in my head" He turned his back on her, "I had no intentions of ever killing you. My only plan was to leave you here for a few days....just for a laugh..." He smirked, "Of course i would have sent my brother to feed you etc; i'm not a heartless murderer"
He began to walk away from her; it was true what they said. People only had one view of him. He was a murderer and a tyrant incapable of having fun or feeling anything other than hatred. That was why he must prove to both the village and himself he was different. He couldn't get into these random spars anymore. It was just too dangerous. There was a chance he could lose his mind again and when that happened, he'd lose everything he worked for.
"Don't take everything so seriously...." He muttered to her, walking away
