Appearance: He has a kekkei genkai that makes him have a split personality. He has a light side and a dark side so I'll explain his general look and the differences when he changes.
General/Neutral: He has jet black hair and dark eyes. His hair is medium length, but does not cover his eyes and he has very light tan skin. His general look gives off a mysterious look to it. He's not buff, but he does have muscle and it can make him agile yet strong. He is bit taller than the average height and average weight. He wouldn't wear a forehead protector since he is a missing-nin.
Light: His eyes change to a lighter color and gives off a more friendly and noble look. His hair gives a bit of a lighter tint to it also. His face gives a friendly look also. Atasuke changes to his light side based on two things: People and Emotions (explained in the personality section).
Dark: His eyes change to a red color and gives off a more rebellious and dark look. His hair doesn't change since it's already jet black and his face gives off a bored look. Overall, he appears....darker and a lot less friendly. Atasuke changes to his dark side based on People and Emotions also (explained in personality).
Personality: I'll catagorize this part also.
General/Neutral: The first impression you'd get of him is that he's a mysterious and quiet guy. And when he's neutral, he is. He's quiet and just goes around places since he considers himself a wanderer. If someone goes up and talks to him, he'll talk and socialize, but overall he's quiet. He is also a rebel. One of the reasons why he never settles down in a village is because he hates playing by the rules and that he wouldn't want his dark side to get the best of him.
Light: He's more social when he's in his light side. If someone goes and talks with him, he'll be talking more and giving off a friendly vibe. He smiles more and he's very polite around people. But just because he's in light doesn't mean he's still not a rebel. If someone tries to cage him or make him feel trapped and telling him rules, he'll either turn neutral right away (usually) or if that person persisted and insisted so much on it, he'd turn into his dark side and be a whole different person. Fighting and sparring does not influence his light side and he would probably become neutral.
People: In order to change into his light side, the people he's with and how they act towards him can either influence his light or his dark side. For light, people that are friendly, polite, caring, pure and all the other good traits, will influence his light side. If the people act nice and caring and polite towards him, his light side will also be influenced.
Emotions: How he feels will also influence either his light or dark side. For light, when/if people act like that towards him for a while, his emotions would probably change (who's wouldn't?) to a more lighter side of him. When good people are socializing with him nicely and politely, they would be able to notice the slight changes in him if he really feels that way (look in appearances for that).
Dark: When he's dark, he becomes instantly bored and looking for something to do. And that something is trouble and fighting. When people look at him, they'd think he was really bored first and that he's a "bad boy." For sparring, he would mostly be neutral unless he's being taunted, the opponent is cheating, he's getting frusturated or he's losing, then those would influence his dark side. He also becomes stronger and faster, but he can sometimes go a bit overboard and doesn't strategize. He's acts ruder when talking and he would probably upset a lot of people.
People: For dark, the people he has to be with would have a reputation for trouble and whatnot and treats him rudely, badly or boredly. This influences his dark side since he's socializing with those kinds of people.
Emotions: For dark emotions, when he's with those kinds of people, his emotions will, again probably change unless those people are neutral and influence his dark side.
Background: Atasuke, even though he's a missing-nin and an outcast, did have a childhood and a family at one time. His family held the split personality kekkei genkai, but only some did. His father did, himself and his older sister, Mista did (there are many others, but I'm too lazy to type that). His father tried to teach him and his sister to learn how to control the special ability. Atasuke learned how to control it faster than Mista did, but she was still learning. One day, their father had to go on a mission somewhere and they were both stuck with their mother. But, because they didn't clean up their rooms and they disobeyed her, she went on a rampage, completely forgetting about their kekkei genkai. Atasuke barely controlled his and went outside, tired of listening to his mother. Mista, however, could not control it and she went on her dark side and went on a rampage also, wrecking almost everything in the house. The terrified mother went outside and tried to warn Atasuke with the words, "Run away," barely escaping her lips as he saw Mista kill her right in front of his eyes. Everyone else in the village were in their houses, but rushed out when they heard the mother scream. Mista's conscience, however, made her go neutral as she couldn't believe what she had done. She decided to run away right then and there, taking Atasuke with her, since he was a witness to her death (note: Mista was thirteen and Atasuke was ten). Of course, the whole village was after them and they eventually caught Mista; she told Atasuke to run away and not listen to the village family. And he did.
Years passed on and he wandered village to village, still with his kekkei genkai. He survived somehow since he had better control over it then Mista did. Of course, he had no knowledge of Mista ever since she was captured. But he couldn't go back since the whole village is after him and blame him also for killing his mother. He learned how to live with his kekkei genkai and he liked using twin katanas, shuriken and shooting exploding kunai. He also discovered that he was particularly skilled in fire elemental jutsu. But, his split personality sometimes made him favor one weapon over another and he argues within himself sometimes.
He liked to wander to many villages, but he visited Sand and Leaf more often than many others. Because of his constant traveling, he had no sensei and never went to any academy so he had to come up with his own fighting skills by watching others fight and trying new things. He also didn't want to be that well-known around a village since he thinks his clan is still after him.
He had lots of family, but they were all after him, except maybe his father and Mista. One goal that he wants to fullfil is to find knowledge of Mista's whereabouts and meet her again. That's also another reason why he travels so much. So far, he has no knowledge of Mista, but has not given up hope; he's a rebel, but he does want to find Mista. Though he travels many places, he has very few friends. He's aware that he might just change any moment like his sister with his mother and that he might one day go on a rampage so he doesn't like getting close to people which is why he was very few friends and no best friends at all. He has never fallen in love before and has never been romantically interested in any girls before. He's not looking, but sometimes he just wishes someone out there would understand him and talk him to for a bit (which is another reason why he's looking for Mista), but he doesn't really want to get involved romantically with anyone, unless someone would accept him and stay with him even when he would be on a rampage.
