Name of Canon: Sakura Haruno
Age of Canon: 15
Thorough Physical Description: She has soft pink hair, like petals of her namesake flower, or a pale pink rose. Kind of like cotton candy, actually. Her eyes, very in shades of green. Often, when she's upset , they seem a dark, deep emerald color. When she's anrgy, they are just a hint lighter. When she's gentle or happy, they seem a light color , like jade or spring green. She's a good couple inches shorter than Naruto (a complete turn around from part 1), lean, and thin. She always dresses in red , with the Haruno clan (maybe it's justr a family?) symbol on her back, a single white circle. Her outfit in the shippuuden consists of a warm maroon zip-up tank, a lavender skirt with slits on each side over black shorts, bandages and her shuriken holster on her right leg, long black ninja sandals like open-toed boots, lavender elbow protectors, black gloves, and a red konoha headband.
Thorough Personality Description: Sakura Haruno is a very contradictory character.
In the June 2006 issue of the American Shonen Jump, Masashi Kishimoto (in the voice of Kakashi) stated that Sakura would make the best ninja instructor, because "she has flaws in her personality, like stalking Sasuke, but Sakura is the closest to being normal."[1] He also has stated that Sakura and Rock Lee were meant to symbolize human weakness (at least in the beginning of the series). -Wikipedia
As a young child, she was shy, almost like Hinata. She cried alot, and didn't seem able to take care of herself. With Ino's help, she gradually got bolder, but still, she seemed afraind to be herself. This is expressed by "Inner Sakura". All most all of Sakura's realistic human reactions (except those involving Naruto) were secretly expressed here, while she would say what ever "sweet" thing she deemed appropriate, as if trying to fit into an image.
In part one she was (and it pains me to say this, as a Sakura fan) a rotten, stuck up, stupid little brat. *winces* (Ouch. That hurt to say; but it's the truth). She really wasn't much use at all. She had book smarts, yes, but no real-life expectation what-so-ever, and not much more maturity. She ignored Naruto, who was devoted to her, and would do anything to make her happy, (eventually resulting in the promise of a life time; It's not just a SasuSaku moment,, we NaruSakuers see it as a Narusaku moment as well.) She chased after Sasuke, foolishly, unable to see his faults or admit the fact that he really wanted nothing to do with her.
She would freeze in battle, and had to be protected. She acted more like a client than a ninja.
In short, she was far, far, from perfect. I heard in on Heaven and Earth that Masashi Kishimoto once said in an interview, that he actually tried to make Sakura a hard-to-like character, and he certainly suceeded.
But as time went on, she had to grow up.
The genisis of this change was, as far as I can tell, the chuunin exams.
Those exams pushed the canadites to the limits. As things grew tougher and tougher, Sakura had a nagging feeling in her heart (which she tried desperately to deny) and she began to see just how wrong she had been in her former assumptions, about herself, her teammates, heck, about life. This was shovedout ofthe way for a little while, but its quiet birth has its roots in these tests.
When team seven first encountered Orochimaru, the hidden feelings were proved right again. Nearing the end of the battle, Sakura cries out to Sasuke:
(And, of course, Sasuke automatically goes "ITACHi!" )
Sakura: (thinking It's no use. I've got no strength left. (begins to cry, still thinking) Way to go Sakura. You let everyone down again! What good are you?! Even now, when the others really need me, I cave! How many times have they saved my neck? You think, maybe, just this once, when it's life or death, you'd think just maybe that I'd be able to come through! (edit)
Of course, the most noticeble start to her development is in "Sakura Blossoms", where she cuts her hair- symbolizing her fears, assumptions, weaknss, and everythuing elese thats holding her back- and lets it go, attempting to save her team and Lee.
Of course, who can forget Orochimaru's castle, where she was completely and uterly useless, and led to Naruto's injury. I HATED that arc, but, then it had it's purpose- she decided to finally act on her words from "Sakura Blossoms" and make herself stronger, by going to Tsunade.
In the shippuuden, some things have changed, others haven't. She still cries easily, over Naruto, and Gaara, and Sasuke. Inner sakura (from what I've seen) has dissapeared; she acts more naturally now, and isnt afraid to be herself. She still is imaptient, and has a wicked bad temper, but she's learned to hold her tongue more, though she may not have mastered the art. She's not afraid to use her moster-strength to keep those around her in line, but she also hads gained a new level of compassion.
People know not to mess with her, considering that when she punches the ground, there's an earthquake. (Domo, Tsunade-sama!)But on the inside, she has a deep, thouhtful nature. She does care about the loud goofball on her team, she's just reluctant to show it. She's not perfect. She's made a lot of mistakes and hates herself for it. She's spunky, loud, and cheerful; but when nessacary, can be sensitive, loving, and forgiving. It may take people a little while to see this portion of her, though. Before, she didn't know how to truly relate to those with bad childhoods. But team 7 has become her dark past, It brings pain, but it also brings understanding.
Background: Your character's background. (From as far back as possible to Shippuden).
In Part I, Sakura did not participate actively in battle but mainly served as a mediator for the rivalry between Naruto and Sasuke. She tried her best in keeping Team 7 together but failed in the end when Sasuke left. This ultimately strengthened Sakura's mentality as she vowed to train hard along with Naruto with the hope of one day reuniting Team 7.
In Part II, her newfound place in the story is first seen during her battle with Akatsuki member Sasori whom, with the help of Chiyo, she is able to defeat. As congratulations, Sasori tells her of a spy within Orochimaru's ranks, which gives her and the rest of Team 7 a chance to find Sasuke. Despite their efforts and the help of new team member Sai, they are unsuccessful in bringing Sasuke back. Once learning of Sasuke's victory over Orochimaru, however, Naruto and Sakura decide to try again, and after assembling an 8-man team they set out to find Sasuke or, Sasuke's target, Itachi Uchiha. -Wikipedia
Unlike Sasuke and Naruto, Sakura's childhood wasn't tragic, She was simply a shy little ghost of a kid, who was bullied in the academy. Her embaressment over her forehead caused her classmates to tease her.
Ino Yamanaka became her friend and gave her a bright red ribbon (which, notice, is later her fave color) to pull her hair back. With Ino's friendship, Sakura came to form her own individual identity and some self-confidence. As this confidence (and some arrogance, I suppose) grew, she grew to have a crush on Sasuke, who Ino also liked. When Sakura discovered this, she ended their friendship ( bad Saku-chan!!!) so that the two were proper rivals for Sasuke's affections'. But by the end of their match in the Chunin Exams, they begin to regain their friendship. Still, they have a competitive relationship.
Sakura's first real mission was, like the rest of team seven, the Mission in the Land of the Waves, but she really did very little other than cry over Sasuke.
In the Chunin exams, she knew all the answers to the first test, but nearly quit, because she wanted to protect Naruto.
In the Forest of Death, she started out, as usual, a hinderance. She perfectly memorized Sasuke's password, but was fooled by the false Naruto. She was temporarily rendered unable to fight after seeing a genjutsu of her and Sasuke's death.
After her teamates faced Orichimaru (she really did very little here other than prompt Sasuke and save Naruto from a fall) she was forced to watch over her teammates while Naruto slept and Sasuke suffered from the curse mark.
In short:
Sakura fights Ino later in the exams, but I already covered that. She has no particular importance for the rest of the exams UNTIL about the time Neji faces Naruto. She watches from the stands, cheering him on, and at the same time feeling a little jealous. Her worry for Sasuke, who's late, is at this point, overwhelming.
Somemore stuff happens with Sasuke vs. Gaara (I'm sure we've all seen it folks. I'm going ot have to do a little skipping here, in order to actually focus on Sakura...)
TBC
Why you want to RP this character: Sakura I can relate to. She used to be well... less than perfect. She, like me, didn't know how to relate those who had difficult childhoods. She didn't know how to connect with them. She was constantly presured to be something she wasn't, and in doing so, sabotaged herself. But team 7 became her dark past. She was forced to leave her childishness, her naitivity, (I Used to be all of these things, not to mention, very, very stupid) and in some ways, her very happiness behind. She realized she was useless (the way I feel sometimes) and had the courage to take a step forward and change herself. She stepped into the role she had needed to fill, and took the weight of her teammate's lives on her shoulders. She grew up. she became a kunoichi, locking the door of her past behind her, even though she knew it would haunt her till death called her in her final hours. She became strong. I guess, what I'm really trying to say, is I admire her. I admire her spirit, her power to change herself, her empathy (though it was a bit late to bloom) and her strength (mental, physical, and spiritual.) I like her have ahard time letting go. I crushed on a boy for six years straight with out him ever knowing, and I've found it hard to liek anyone since then, so I kind of understand her preocupation with Sasuke. I like her have memory (Long term, if not short term) as one of my greatest gifts and weakness. Like her, I can't very easily look back with out wincing at something , no matter how trivial. I guess I just feel really connected to Sakura
Example of Writing:
Sakura stood on the small, clean swept balcony of her tiny apartment, as yet another Hi no Kuni sumer rainstorm poured around her.
She looked at the white-on-red rose she clutched tightly in her hand. Teruha had given it to her.
"Sakura-chan" Teruha had tilted to her head to the side, smiling although her eyes were worried, "You seem down. Everything okay?"
"It's just the weather," she had replied, "I think the rain's getting me down."
Teruha laughed at this.
"Then, unlike Chitsuki, you are sane. You know, she's probably off somewhere getting lashed by the downpour and enjoying it."
Teruha's tone and expression grew more serious.
"But then, all this water must be calming to her. She's got it in her veins, since she was born in Kuni no Umi. She's literallty in her element."
Sakura ran her fingers through her hair, and bit her lip.
Teruha couldn't help but smile faintly as she recognized her friend's thinking gestures.
"I've noticed," the green-eyed girl continued for her friend, "every one who was born here seemed irratble or depressed today. Those of us with Konoha in our blood, we panick when we can't see the sun. We were born seeking fire; we're different. Not better, just different from everyone else here, whether they live in Konoha or they're just passing. We worry when we're not close to the sun, to warmth. I guess Suna could claim the same thing, but..."
Teruha nodded her agreement and laughed again. Casually, she stopped walking, and Sakura halted as well, not wanting to leave the shelter of their umbrella. She slid a couple yen coins over the counter of a street flower vendor. The man scowled at them, and looked anxiously up to the sky, as if to prove their point.
"Listen to us. Anyway, Saku-chan, chin up," the blue eyed teen took a rose from a vase, and handed it carefuly to her, " That's an order from a friend, got it? Now I better go find Chitsuki before she gives herself pneumonia."
Back in the present, Sakura looked down at her hand, a slight stinging sensation spreading through it.
Someone had done a poor job of de-thorning the flower; a sharp minature green dagger cut into her palm.
Sighing, she fingered the scratch, and then leaned against the balony rail.
One by one, she carefully removed each petal, almost without thinking, and let each drop gracefully to the wet cement below.
A red and white rose was supposed to stand for unity, something Sakura didn't feel she knew much of. On days like this, she felt, as she had earlier said, anxious, and disconnected from her core. She had the aching feeling that something was missing, but then, that was a feeling she knew well.
It was on days like this, when the golden warmth of the sun seemed to cease its glowing, that she would pour over her past, like running her fingers over cracks in an old sidewalk.
Haruno Sakura had never been useful, never been a good kunoichi. She hadn't helped anyone, had defended a life, had never held one together. She had acted as a force to push thins apart, really.
A bold white-rimmed red petal hit the ground, and then blew softly away.
She was a healer of the body, it was true, but Sakura couldn't help but wonder if she had ever helped anyone's heart. She had dstroyed her friendship with Ino, neglected and abused Naruto, sabotaged herself, and still others.
Pure white followed red.
It was times like this that Sakura doubted she had ever been connected to the fiery soul of Konoha, because, strangely, this lacking didn't feel new.
As the pad of her thumb stroked cold metal, she wondered how on earth she could ever seek absolution.
Sakura looked at the wilted, twisted stalk of a flower she held in her hand.
Three thin petals still clung on desperately.
She lay it down gently on the patio chair, wondering if it was a kind of omen, even though she didn't normally belive in such things.
Soft golden light feel across her face. Startled she looked at the sky.
kitsunenoyomeiri
a rain storm while the sun shines
She looked at the huge gap in the clouds, waiting for it to close and for the golden orb to be veiled again. After a few minutes, nothing had happened.
A kind of comfort washed over her, and she knew, that finally, she was at least wrong about one thing. Which was iroinic, since she normally loved being right.
A voice called out below her....
(at which some one else would normally take over. Sorry, i got a little carried away... this very well might become a fanfic later...)
